Over 400 engineers inspired to put life on the line
What do 400+ engineers have in common? They were inspired by Perry's latest inspirational, thought-provoking presentation at EES Portland. Where did we learn that hard work, dedication, education and thrift lead to virtue, happiness and security? This is the question more than 400 unemployed engineers explored in Perry's keynote speech at the 2009 Engineering Employment Symposium. During his keynote, Perry lead audience members through a highly personal, intimate exploration of one of many uncontested life models we call "truth," models that keep us living mediocre lives. Then he challenged audience members to consider that a life worth living is a life put at risk. Sounds scary. The paradox is, when we do that, we realize our dreams.
Perry hit a nerve and the evaluations prove the point. Ninety evaluations were returned. The results:

A Unique Perspective on Leadership
More than 100 business leaders agreed Perry delivered at the Beaverton and Greater Hillsboro Chambers of Commerce Business Expo held on March 18, 2009. In this excerpt from Perry's presentation at the Business Expo, Perry tells business owners to create their own reality rather than listening to what the doomsayers are predicting about the economic downturn and their expectations of what lies ahead. The message: "Don't believe what our leaders are telling us. There are plenty of people seeing opportunity and reaping success during our downturn. You can be one of them. Here's how to shape your climate rather than merely reflecting it."
Overwhelmingly the audience was positive about Perry's speech. One attendee noted that "Out of all the presenters today, Perry was the only one who truly delivered!"

Technology and its Implications for Humanity
We as a species have reached a precipice. We’re about to jump off. And we’re going to soar. Technology will be our wings. And as we soar we will change the shape of humanity and the world around us. Emerging technologies hint at possibilities we have at once and at the same time dreamed about and intended all along. These
technologies will enable the fullest expression of who and what we are in the physical universe ushering in what will arguably be the greatest event in the history of the universe. We are playing a part in that event’s unfolding, but getting there is not guaranteed. In order to succeed, we must ensure the broadest number of human beings have access to this technology and our current economic system is unfit for that task. We must therefore create the future differently.
What are these technologies? Biotechnology, Information technology, cognitive sciences, advanced molecular nanotechnology, artificial intelligence and robotics.
What will the technology-enabled future look like? We don’t know. But looking at what we’ve created so far, the possibilities are fantastic….and frightening. And that’s why every leader should know about them.
