What have I been doing the last two months?

The process

NedWater flowing into a bottle

It’s been a while since I posted here on my website. Where have I been?

Good question.

Luckily, I have a really good answer. While I’ve been getting lots of interest in my speaking business, the gigs coming my way have not been paying at the level I feel I’m worth. And so, I’ve been refusing those business opportunities. I strongly subscribe to the adage that people pay you what you think you’re worth. And so, I will not speak before a group that’s not willing to pay for the value I offer. In this way, I’m directing universal energy to manifest the gigs that will pay me what I’m worth.

In the meantime, I’ve been working on my books and watching as other interests have emerged. The most interesting by far is the emergence of NedWater Liquid Change.

NedWater Liquid Change is a response to my concerns that I had a credibility gap in my profession as a speaker. I mean, I know a lot about what I’m talking  about when I deliver a keynote about consciousness, leadership and organizations. And I have seen its efficacy in my personal and professional life. But I haven’t used it to build a business from scratch. Wouldn’t it be amazing if I had an opportunity to do that? How much more credibility would I command?

Interestingly, exactly that opportunity emerged right about the time of my last post. A dear friend with 20 years of start-up experience invited me to invest in a socially responsible start-up called NedWater Liquid Change.

NedWater is the world’s first philanthropic water brand. Of course it’s a local Portland company. It’s purpose is to build a business community that’s committed to a better world. When you’re enjoying NedWater you’re not only getting healthy, sparkling, ionized, refreshing water for your business; you are also making the world a better place. By simply drinking NedWater you’re supporting local and international non-profit organizations as 5 percent of our gross monthly sales goes directly to nonprofits.

We also have a nonprofit affiliate program where by if a nonprofit introduces its business supporters to NedWater and the business buys our water, the nonprofit gets 20 percent of that business customer revenue for as long as they buy NedWater. That’s pretty cool.

There are other aspects of NedWater that make it a fantastic opportunity to make the world a better place. But I’ll save that for a later post.

Anyway, in a fluke of events over the summer, I have wound up not only as a principal investor, but also the company CEO. So suddenly I have an opportunity to direct the growth of this company in a way consistent with the principles I talk about in my speeches. Now, should the company be successful, I will be able to point to a company I grew from scratch, using the principles I talk about in my speeches. It’s a much better proof point than my MBA education, my spiritual education and my professional corporate education combined. When you add those to a successful start-up, suddenly, I have powerful and compelling levels of credibility. Don’t you think?

So that’s what I’ve been up to. Growing a socially-responsible start up. So far, it’s been a great learning experience that has tested nearly all my spiritual approaches. And I can honestly say, the approaches I talk about are working.
